The Wild Horses Of The Outer Banks Print
The Outer Banks are one of the best spots to visit in North Carolina. Many of the beaches are relatively isolated, and wild life still thrives untouched by man's influence. One of the greatest assets to this area is the wild horses that inhabit the beaches and dunes around Corolla, NC. Although their habitat is being slowly encroached upon by development many regulations offer protection for these animals. The history behind these horses adds to their mystic, because they are the descendants of Spanish Mustangs that survived shipwrecks along the coast hundreds of years ago. One hot summer afternoon, I was blessed to see several of them cooling their hooves along the shoreline, and I knew I had to paint them. To me, they are a symbol of strength and perseverance, and I tried diligently to capture those traits in this artwork of a stallion and his mare. Corolla, NC is a fascinating place, not only because of these wild horses, but because access to the small town is only available by four wheel drive vehicle. There are no paved roads to the city, so in order to get there you must travel several miles along the deserted beaches. I will never forget seeing these beautiful creatures on the beaches of North Carolina. This is a great print that I'm sure you will enjoy. click here more information about the original painting used to make this print.
